Pat McDonnell Paint Sales are recruiting a Commercial Co-Ordinator, a key role in driving the continued growth and success of the business. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the successful candidate will join a small pivotal team tasked with ensuring Pat McDonnell Paints have the best-in-class Sales support efficiencies by aiding both internal and external teams through the provision of necessary data and support on items such as sales, pricing & inventory issues.

We are currently recruiting for a Commercial Co-ordinator to join the team in our headquarters in Centre Park Road, Cork. This role is open to a hybrid working model.

Key Responsibilities of this role are:


Support with ad-hoc report requests and analytical queries

Learn and support with our data visualisation system - Microsoft Power BI

Ability to interpret data, to solve complex problems and have the ability consolidate large volumes of information


Support our teams and our customers - Send reports of prices; be able to answer their questions by having the ability to get requirements from customers and put answers together

Work closely with others on ensuring information is up to date and communicated


Provide support to the Commercial Manager and the Branch Managers in operational matters 

Co-ordinate key business activities – Reviewing pricing, stock movements etc


Support our staff ensuring complex sales order processes are completed

Support with updates on our ERP System, Intact iQ

A Day in the Job - Your typical day could look something like:

  • Find answers to queries from Branch Managers, Sales Reps etc and respond to them
  • Prices and Barcodes for a customer
  • Checking sales prices on products
  • Providing high-level reports on customer purchases/history

You will be a key support for our teams in branches and on the road and help to drive our business forward

  • Review prices in a particular product range and create a short report on what the current figures are – Cost, selling price, margin, queries and changes required.
  • Discuss with the team on how best to proceed and update the system with the agreed decisions. Communicate these changes to all relevant stakeholders

You will be integral to us keeping on top of a very large product offering with potentially complex pricing options

  • Analyse the custom prices a customer may have and review how relevant these are now. Ensure the updated pricing is communicated with customers.

You will be a major support in us ensuring our pricing remains correct, competitive and works for everyone

  • Be in contact with and co-ordinate between different branches and warehouses on where we need stock moved to sell off, give to good causes etc.
  • Follow up with a report on where we have pallet space as a result – In a challenging supply chain, it’s becoming more and more critical that we’re strong on managing our storage, ensuring we are able to order strategically and ensure our customers are able to be serviced with the products they require
  • If there is a particularly complex sales order required, support our Sales Reps and Warehouse teams by ensuring it is processed correctly.

Being a key bridge between different teams and making sure we are fully aware of future orders to ensure we can deliver the products our customers need.

  • Collaborate with other members of the team on ensuring purchase prices and sales prices are in sync and we’re following the pricing strategy we’ve set out.
  • Prioritise the key items and ensure it’s done ahead of implementation dates to be able to communicate internally and externally

Collaboration is key in your role, working with the Supply Chain Administrator and making sure we’re able to update our sales pricing in line with our purchase pricing has become even more vital as manufacturers and suppliers are seeing cost of goods increases at an accelerated rate.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a 3rd Level qualification in Business Studies, Commerce, BIS, Finance or similar.
  • Ideally have 2-3 year’s relevant/similar experience. While experience within a Retail organisation is ideal, it is not essential
  • Be a demonstrated self-starter
  • Get on well with people and be able to develop trusting relationships with colleagues
  • Be achievement-oriented, with a proven track record of same
  • Focused on detail and enjoy problem solving

More importantly, the successful candidate will have a strong analytical skill set, a passion for learning, a desire to innovate and improve processes and is a strong collaborator and team player.

You will have:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal & presentation skills
  • Results orientated with strong analytical and problem resolution skills
  • The ability to adapt to different customer needs and to develop and maintain successful working relationships
  • Strong critical thinking and ability to drive resolution in ambiguous situations
  • Excellent knowledge & computer skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint & Word. Successful candidate must be a very strong user of MS Excel.
  • Experience working with ERP solutions (specific experience with Intact IQ ERP system is preferred but not required).
  • Well organised & flexible with effective time management and organisation skills
  • Demonstrated excellent business acumen and commercial awareness with the ability to think and plan strategically as well as a having strong attention to detail.
